Unai Emery staying patient as he tries to unlock Aston Villa man's 'power'
The player has seen limited opportunities so far.
Unai Emery believes patience will be key to unlocking the “power” of Villa winger Alysson.
The 20-year-old Brazilian was handed his first start since a £10million move from Gremio in Saturday’s win at Newcastle but substituted at half-time after being booked for diving.
Alysson scored Villa’s first Premier League goal of the season in last month’s defeat to Nottingham Forest, yet has endured a difficult time with injuries during his early months in England.
Despite that, Emery has been impressed with his attitude despite the slow start to his Villa career and has vowed to give him more chances in the weeks ahead.
“Every minute he is playing, practising, he is fantastic,” said the boss. “We can see his power. We can see that if he can get consistency, a lot of things he is doing: ‘Wow!'.
“He should be a player who can help us. So, patience, consistency and every day being careful with him.
“Keep going forward, keep going forward and being ready to play 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes or even in the starting XI for the next matches.”
Emery explained how Alysson was still feeling some effects from the injury issues which limited his involvement during the second half of last season.
“He was injured more than he was available to train and play,” said Emery. “We did work with him, but slowly.
“This season he has had some pain and we must try to be careful, but giving him confidence to feel comfortable as well.
“Also, so he can get our demands, playing tactically, individually with his skills and collectively with the clear task we have in the team.”
