"There were big strides forward" - Wolves boss taking some positives from defeat
Rob Edwards believes Wolves made 'big strides forward' with their performance against Crystal Palace, despite his frustration at the defeat.
Wolves controlled the first half at Selhurst Park, before Tolu Arokodare missed a penalty, Ladislav Krejci was sent off and a late Palace winner saw Wolves fall to their 20th defeat in 28 Premier League games this season.
Edwards' side were particularly effective in midfield and although the head coach says there is room for improvement, he was pleased with the progression regarding the team display.
He said: "With the ball, I thought we were excellent. If I could be a little bit critical, once we broke through them a few times, I just wanted to try and create a little bit more in those moments, once we got behind them and broke their midfield line, which we did a few times.
"There were big strides forward in terms of performance."
However, Edwards was visibly annoyed after the game at how his team managed to lose in the capital.
"The message at half-time, the way we were performing, we don't want to accept a point here and only accept all three with the way we were playing," Edwards said.
"It's really frustrating me coming up here talking to you about a defeat.
"The lads were brilliant and took everything on board. They carried out the game plan really, really well. We were the better team up until the point where the sending off happened.
"There's two big moments, the penalty and then the sending off, and those two big, big things have gone against us and we are where we are now.
"Even with 10 men, they were obviously pushing and we had to defend throws and defend the box relatively well, but I don't think Sa had too much to do.
"But that moment that they found, that bit of quality, if we can adjust one or two people's position just only by a little bit, by a fraction, we're taking something from the game.
"Two big moments that didn't go our way and that's why we lost.
"I'm very frustrated.
"I feel it was a game that we could be coming here talking about a win, so I am frustrated."
The decision to give Krejci two swift yellow cards was criticised by some, while fans highlighted the leniency shown to Will Hughes.
The Palace midfielder made a number of fouls before and after his yellow card, but was not given his marching orders before Oliver Glasner took him off at half-time.
When asked whether Hughes should have seen red, Edwards added: "The referee will decide that, but the fact that he didn't come out at half-time suggests that he was walking a tightrope. But that's how it went for us."
