Shropshire stars impress indoors

Shropshire's Under-11 boys put up a strong team performance to secure third overall at the West Midlands Indoor Sportshall Fun in Athletics.

Top performances on the track came from Jake Barnes and Oliver Maddox, who finished second in the two-by-two lap relay race.

The race sees two athletes running two laps each, passing a baton between them.

The duo were joined by teammates Josh Allen and Cameron Smith, who claimed second overall in the Grand Prix.

George Bowen shared top honours in the balance test in the field, with Barnes in the vertical jump and Maddox in the standing triple jump both taking third spot.

The county's Under-11 girls were also on form as they took fifth during last Sunday's event at the Coventry Sports and Leisure Centre, just six points behind third place.

Bella Dooley and Pippa Goulden shone on the track with a win in their two-by-two lap relay race, while Beth Rawlinson and Brooke Piff were second in the parlaaf, which sees two athletes run a total of six laps between them.

Goulden also claimed joint first in the balance test and in the target throw Lucia Rooney and Amber Lewis shared second.

Rawlinson finished tied in third in the vertical jump while the over and under relay team finished second overall.

Shropshire Under-13 and under-15 teams will travel to Coventry in March for the West Midlands Regional Sportshall finals.
