Rob Edwards hoping there is more to come from Wolves summer signing
Rob Edwards admits Jhon Arias has taken time to adjust to English football but hopes the forward has turned a corner for Wolves.
The summer signing put in his best display for the club in a slightly deeper position at Old Trafford in midweek, as Wolves finally ended their losing streak.
Edwards was pleased with Arias' display and believes there is more to come.
"He was really good," Edwards said.
"I challenged them in front of the boys as well, that Joao, Jhon and Mane had to take the ball.
"I felt then if they could try and move their midfield around, it might open things up for Channy, and I thought Channy was good in either receiving it inside almost to make a bit of a diamond or to pull on the outside. It caused them some problems.
"Jhon is a really good footballer and it can take time to adjust, especially to England and the Premier League.
"Playing a little bit deeper, got him on the ball more and I thought he was really, really good."
Wolves only had team meetings on that new shape when they realised Santi Bueno would not be fit in time and they were unable to run through it in training
"I told them in a meeting that I felt this is the way that we're going to go, which wasn't the way we were going to go in the end," Edwards added.
"We did a couple of different things in training, we didn't go too tactical, but we had some longer meetings to work on the tactical side.
"I wanted to see people's body language and who was with it and who was up for it. To be honest, in training all of the guys were really good, with great intensity just a couple days after playing Liverpool.
"But all the tactical work we had to do was in meetings."
Hwang Hee-chan, on on the other hand, was disappointing against United and gave the ball away cheaply for their goal.
But Edwards defended his forward and wants him to take risks on the ball.
He said: "We all make mistakes. A lot still has to happen for that deflected goal to go in.
"If I'm going to ask players to try and be brave and to try and then take the ball, we are going to lose it at times.
"They took that moment, whether there was an element of luck with the deflection or not, so I'm not going to ask him to change in any way.
"Of course, I'd love him to be able to take Heaven on and go and then we're off on the counter attack, but those things can happen."
