'Right direction': Tom Sang issues defiant Shrewsbury Town message as Salop hunt first win after tough start

After picking up an injury in pre-season - he netted Salop's first goal of the campaign in the EFL Cup defeat to Grimsby, before starting Wednesday's 4-1 defeat at Notts County.

Despite the scoreline, Sang believes Salop had more control than they have had in other games this season - and he insists it is not far from 'coming together'.

He said: "I feel like again the other night it is those small details not going our way in both boxes. We had good spells in the game, more control than we have had in any other game.

"We are going in the right direction, it is a new group and we are still learning about each other. The more we get used to each other we'll keep moving in the right direction. It will come together and when it does we will be a really good team."

Salop's run at the start of their first campaign in League Two for ten years has been a rotten one. A goalless draw to Bromley on the opening day has been followed by two heavy defeats to Tranmere and Notts County which saw them ship eight goals.

Those losses came either side of a 2-0 home defeat to Colchester. They head to Swindon tomorrow eyeing up their first win - and Sang admits that the players themselves have to be accountable for the start to the season.

He added: "Everyone is accountable for their role in the game, it is not as easy as anyone thinks stopping a goal going in or putting it in the back of the net but we have the quality in the dressing room.

"And the way we are playing it is only a matter of time before it starts dropping for us.

"If you win a game in a horrible way it is good for team spirit, also if you blow a team out of the water that is also a big boost.

"We've got resilience and experience in the dressing room, lads who have been promoted and know what is required and have played a lot of games, everyone knows their job."
