Telford-born Scholes is the chief executive officer of Red Hockey Limited, a new company set up by the Tigers' current sponsors, Red Touch Media.

The deal has been completed to buy the club from Telford Tigers Society Limited through Scholes, who worked alongside the kit manager back in the team's mid-1980s heyday.

He said: "I'm delighted to be the new owner of the Telford Tigers through Red Hockey Limited.

"From my first days as a fan, to my early experience working with the team, to being a lead sponsor and now an owner, I have always felt hockey had a special place in Telford.

"Through this new ownership position, we will be able to continue the long history of the Tigers for years to come."

Tigers have been under supporter ownership since April 2010, when they became the first-ever fan-owned supporters trust ice hockey team in the world.

Tigers chairman Mike Washburn said: "All the good work in the trust will not be lost and a new supporters club will also be established to continue to provide vital support to the team."
