Millwall v West Brom: Tony Mowbray challenges Albion to provide 'brave response'

West Brom's inconsistent form will be in the spotlight on Saturday - as they look to bounce back from a damaging defeat as they head to face Millwall.

Tony Mowbray's Baggies were unable to follow up their late win over Sheffield Wednesday - as they slipped to a poor 2-0 defeat at home to Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday evening.

So far Mowbray's side have been on a pattern of winning a game, but losing in the following fixture.

They take on a Millwall side who were beaten at Plymouth Argyle on Wednesday night - and Mowbray knows the obvious test his side will face at The Den.

However, he has challenging his side to be a lot braver in different areas of the pitch if they are going to get back to winning ways.

"We found how tough it was going to Plymouth, and Millwall will be smarting from that defeat," said Mowbray.

"The Den is a really tough place to go, the crowd create an environment every game where everything is difficult.

"We have to be brave. Brave to play forward and play through the lines, but also to stand up to the physical encounters that are coming.

"The centre half Cooper heads everything, and we can't just accept that. We need to find a way to stop them."

Wednesday's off colour display will have given Mowbray food for thought when it comes to his selection in London.

He pointed out Albion's defensive errors after the defeat - and referenced that missing Kyle Bartley who is suspended, played a role in Albion's loss.

He again referenced Bartley has he looked ahead to Millwall and indicated that he may call upon the services of Semi Ajayi, who has returned to fitness following a lengthy absence.

He played 45 minutes on Monday evening in Albion under 21s' 3-1 victory over Newcastle United at Solihull Moors, and was named on the bench against Blackburn for the first time in three months.

Other options in that department are limited - but Mowbray does have now have the ability to tweak things further up the pitch.

Albion's midfield had an off colour evening on Wednesday, with Saturday's late hero Jayson Molumby unable to hit the heights of previous displays.

Alex Mowatt has also looked out of sorts, having played the majority of Albion's games this season.

Isaac Price has come into the fold in midfield with back to back starts after brief cameos following his arrival in January. He is expected to start in London, with Ousmane Diakite knocking in the door.

The summer signing, who impressed over the festive period has been restricted to substitute appearances under Mowbray, but his midfield presence could be key at The Den.

Elsewhere, Tottenham loanee Will Lankshear impressed again off the bench against Blackburn, and was denied his first Baggies goal by the offside flag.

Mowbray now has the option to play two up front with the youngster alongside Adam Armstrong, who also saw a goal chalked off in midweek.

Armstrong strayed out to the left flank after Lankshear's introduction, and that now represents another potential tweak that Mowbray could make from the off on Saturday.
