Bulls pick up big win as Ardal relegation battle hots up

Huge win in the battle for survival as relegation race hots up

Builth Wells have given their chances of surviving in the Ardal North East League a huge boost - thanks to a 4-1 victory over Llangollen Town.

With only two sides going down this season owing to a pyramid restructure, it is the Bulls who occupy the final spot in the relegation zone.

Lex XI are already down but as many as six sides could still face the drop - as the race begins to hot up.

Builth, without a win in a number of weeks, needed something as they welcomed Llangollen, who themselves have pulled up the table following a decent run.

But back to back defeats means they are only six points ahead of Builth, as they head into the run in.

Builth went ahead on ten minutes when Aled Powell fired home but the lead lasted all of six minutes before Paige Wilding levelled it up for Llan.

But before the break Builth had put themselves back in front as Jamie Evans netted.

Six minutes after the restart and they had built on their lead as Powell set up Danny Ives for a crucial third.

And it was to get even better midway through the second half as Evans scored his second, to hand Builth a huge victory.

The result sees them three points behind Kerry, but both have games in hand on those above them.

Kerry were unable to boos their survival chances as they were halted by a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Llanfair United.

Mike Humphreys put Kerry one up five minutes before half time in a tight affair at Mount Field.

Llanfair had the chance to go in front as Tomos Jones missed a penalty.

But just when it looked as though Kerry had done enough, full back Gethin Stephens popped up with an 89th minute equaliser.

Llanfair are still in the picture, but it is unlikely they will go down. They are ten points clear of the bottom two, and half two games in hand on most of the sides around them.

Llandrindod Wells are without a win in their last five games and passed up the chance to bolster their survival hopes - held to a 2-2 draw at home to Dolgellau.

Experienced striker Darren Murphy put them ahead after just 13 minutes, before Gerwyn Williams levelled the scores with a penalty later in the half.

And just after the hour mark Dolgellau had turned the game around as Williams struck again.

But Ruben Edwards found the net moments later and it would prove to be vital as the Spamen battled back for a point.

Bow Street took advantage of Knighton not being in action to climb up to second in the table.

They ran out winners after a frantic first period that saw goals fly in everywhere against Radnor Valley.

They were two up inside six minutes as Tom Williams scored before Rhys Hughes tucked in the re-bound from a Courtney Perkins missed penalty.

Ieuan Price then pulled one back within the first ten minutes, before Otto Jones turned through his own net to increase Bow Street’s lead.

But Matthew Croose made it 3-2 and the game was only 33 minutes old.

And further goals from Josh Taylor and Hughes had the game all done by the break.

Elsewhere, Llanuwchllyn scored a last minute equaliser to draw 2-2 at home to Cefn Albion.
