"It's infectious" - Rob Edwards' praise for Mateus Mane's impact in Wolves win
Rob Edwards has heaped praise on 'brave' Mateus Mane as the teenager inspired Wolves to their first win of the season at home to West Ham.
The 18-year-old started the phase of play for the opening goal, won the penalty for the second and rifled home the third himself for his first senior goal in his first start at Molineux.
Mane has impressed in the last three games and Edwards had nothing but praise for the youngster.
"He's topped off his performance by a brilliant goal," the head coach said.
"He's put in another really brave performance, another selfless performance.
"He's 18, but he's almost like a little bit of a leader in there as well. I think it's infectious. I think he's rubbing off on people, his energy, his enthusiasm.
"He's a really bright talent and someone that we should be really excited about, but at the same time, we just want to try and look after him.
"He's got to keep his feet on the floor, which I know he will do. He's got a good head on his shoulders.
"At 18, to be doing what he's doing at the moment, it's really impressive."
On Mane's goal and performance, Edwards added: "It is an incredible achievement for him.
"I think he's got a lot more to go because he's 18 and we're going to see that. I think physically he's going to continue to get better.
"What I love is his intelligence, his enthusiasm, his bravery and obviously then his technical quality is very good as well.
"He's ticking a lot of the boxes. Think of the games he's played at Anfield, Old Trafford and been really, really good, and then here at home in a really big game.
"This has been a difficult place to play, he's not showing that, he's got a big game mentality as well."
For Wolves it was their first Premier League win of the season - and first since April - but a relieved Edwards was keen not to get carried away.
He said: "I feel good, probably a bit of relief and really pleased, but I realise it's only one win and that's all it is.
"But it's been a good day, so I'll enjoy it and we should enjoy it, but I realise why we've won a game of football. I think it's because we're building, we're progressing, we're getting better.
"At the same time, after a game of football, especially when it's gone quite well, sometimes you can have a bit of a flat feeling as well. I'm just like, 'thank God for that!' I probably feel a little bit like that at the moment."
Joao Gomes was forced off at half-time, while Hwang Hee-chan was also taken off with a knock, with the pair potential doubts for Wednesday's trip to face Everton.
Edwards said: "Joao was feeling his groin, so we'll have to see how he is. Hopefully, he's not too bad.
"Channy was feeling his calf at half-time.
"He wanted to keep going and then he just felt it tighten up a little bit. Then we brought him off as well, so fingers crossed.
"Obviously, we've only got a few days now. So we'll see how they are."
