'It is a bit boring': Former West Brom man makes Championship quality claim and hopes Albion can launch promotion bid

Former West Brom defender Paul Robinson claims the standard of the Championship has been poor for some time.

The division is still regarded by some as one of the most exciting leagues - but the ex-Baggie, who has most recently left his coaching post at Watford, believes that isn't the case anymore.

Robinson insists that the domination of the sides that come down from the Premier League and enjoy the parachute payments that come with it, have made the league 'a bit boring'.

The ex-Albion full back said: "It has not just been poor for the last year, it has been the last four or five years.

"With the teams in the division, it is not as exciting anymore.

"The feel you get for games, it has become a bit boring.

"It is always the teams that come straight back down that go back up and are the favourites, with the parachute payments."

Despite his claims on the state of the league in recent times, there have been anomalies in terms of promotion, with the likes of Sunderland and Ipswich Town going up to the Premier League.

And Robinson is hopeful Albion can be another side to break the dominance of the relegated teams and challenging for promotion.

He added: "I am hoping it is different this time and West Brom have a bash and are challenging.

"You've got Middlesbrough and Norwich who you hope can go at it this time, and then Sheffield United have stayed down, they will be up there.

"Other strong teams will be Wrexham and Birmingham and it will be interesting to see how they get on after investing.

"Only time will tell once the season is up and running and we see how things pan out."
