"I'm looking forward to seeing him back" - Rob Edwards excited about Wolves playmaker nearing return from injury

Rob Edwards is excited about Jean-Ricner Bellegarde's return from injury and believes he will add a strong option to Wolves' midfield.

The 27-year-old last played on December 8, when he scored in the defeat to Manchester United before going off with a hamstring injury.

Last week he returned to the grass to do individual work as he nears a return and since he was sidelined, Wolves have moved to a midfield three with two number eights.

Edwards has high hopes for Bellegarde in this new system when he does get back on the pitch.

"I really do think he will (suit the system), so I'm looking forward to seeing him back," Edwards said.

"But when he does come back, we want to make sure he stays back as well, so we can't rush it.

"At the moment, it's good that we're not in a position where we're going, 'right, come on, we need him straight away'.

"We do need him back, but not breaking down the door of the treatment room and saying, 'come on guys', at the moment. So that's good."

Teenager sensation Mateus Mane has been a revelation for Wolves as one of those advanced midfielders, in a slightly different and deeper role to one he had in the academy.

Edwards admits his technical ability and transition into the first team is 'not that normal', as the 18-year-old receives high praise for his impact.

"Some of his feet in training was excellent, his technical quality is really, really good in tight spaces," Edwards said.

"The way he manoeuvres the ball, the way he can receive.

"Against Liverpool, some of the positions that he found and the way he received the ball on the back foot and turned just in one motion, it's not easy to do and that's not that normal.

"That 360-degree view that he's got, awareness of what's around him, but also then to be able to manipulate his hips and the ball, to be able to turn and go in one motion is really, really good.

"But you can even see now, the timing of his arrival for the goal, the touch and finish were brilliant against Everton.

"I love his ball manipulation in tight spaces, but I think it's decision making as well.

"It's hard to narrow it down to one or two specific things. But if I could, I'd say his decision making, his ball manipulation in tight spaces, I think have been really, really good.

"He's someone that does look forward and play forward. It links into what I was saying about being able to turn on the back foot and go and drive at teams. He wants to do that."
