"I feel that Nathan listens" - Wolves boss confident in recruitment improvement

Nathan Shi has since taken over from Jeff Shi as club chairman on an interim basis, but he is firmly in the running for the permanent role, and the head coach has faith that Wolves will fine tune their recruitment going forward with the help of technical director Matt Jackson.

When asked if he is confident Wolves can improve recruitment with their current structure, Edwards said:  "I am, I feel that.

"Even when it's Jacko, Nathan and myself having conversations, I feel that there's a real good alignment there. I feel that Nathan listens, which is really, really helpful and really good.

"He can feed stuff back to whoever he needs to as well, but he understands from a football point of view what I'm thinking and what Jacko's thinking as well, which is really good."

Before Edwards was appointed, Wolves sold key players Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri, while also losing Nelson Semedo on a free, and signed six players who had never played in the Premier League.

Some of those signings are starting to find their feet, but it is likely too late to save Wolves' top flight status.

Edwards is keen to make changes to how Wolves operate in the future, but admits it is hard to make the right decisions when signing players.

"Recruitment is difficult," Edwards said.

"I don't think there's an exact science and I don't think you can never guarantee anybody.

"Especially with foreign players coming over, it can take time to adjust and people to settle. We're maybe seeing that with one or two people now within the team, just starting to understand the country, everything, the whole thing, the football at this level. It can take time.

"I'm not going to sit here and blame anyone, I'm just going to say that it is difficult and recruitment is tough.

"But certainly going forward, we want to make sure that we do all our due diligence. We make sure that everyone's on the same page, that we really feel they're the right person and the right fit for us to help the club going forward."
