"I don't think that's the case" - Wolves boss on a potential January fire sale

Rob Edwards expects to see Wolves 'freshen things up' in January with players coming and going, but says there has been no talk of selling the club's stars.

With Wolves expected to be relegated this season, interest has been brewing in the likes of Andre, Joao Gomes and Jorgen Strand Larsen as Wolves fans fear a January fire sale.

But the head coach has said there has been no discussion around letting their best players go when the winter transfer window opens in the coming weeks.

"That's not been communicated to me at all," Edwards said.

"I don't want to say anything that will come back to bite me, but as I see it at the moment, I don't think we're in that kind of position where we would have to be selling any of the so-called 'better ones'.

"No, I don't think that's the case."

When asked if some players could try to force a move with one eye on the World Cup next summer, Edwards added: "I don't think they'll be looking at the position, if they're playing.

"There's been one or two that aren't playing that are saying, 'how can I get in the team? I need to play because there's a World Cup'.

"I don't think there's any of them that are thinking (about leaving), because of the position we're in at the moment. They're still playing Premier League football at the moment.

"If they're at their level and doing their thing, then there's no reason why they can't get selected for their national teams.

"There's no-one that's approached me because of the situation we're in."

However, the head coach does admit that Wolves need to do business in January and he expects players to arrive and some to leave when the window opens.

"I think it's clear that we do need some help," he said.

"There'll be a number of areas that we need to try and improve in, so there's a lot of hard work that's going on.

"I haven't been involved in too many conversations over the last week, been trying to concentrate on the football and doing our job, but yes, we want to see and we need to try and freshen things up in January and that'll probably be both ways.

"There will be some people that will move on as well in January and hopefully we can freshen things up with people coming in as well.

"We need that, I think we can all see it."
