Gunnell in unlucky exit

Shropshire's Adrian Gunnell was today coming to terms with his elimination from the Royal London Watches Grand Prix. The Telford cueman lost his final group match to Alex Borg 3-2 last night, condemning him to an early exit in Prestatyn.

Fergal O'Brien and Robin Hull progress to the final stages from the eight-man group after both won six out of their seven matches.

Gunnell, pictured, won five of his group games but would have been eliminated on frame difference, even if he had defeated Borg.

"It's disappointing but I think I would have been even angrier if I had won six and still been knocked out," said the 35-year-old.

"Some people have got through by winning four of seven matches and yet I could have been knocked out by winning six.

"It's a farce and it's not sour grapes because I said the same thing when I received the details a month ago."

Gunnell, who won £3,000 and a reasonable share of ranking points for finishing third in his group, returns to action at the end of the month when he attempts to qualify for the Malta Open.
