Thomas, who first won the competition 32 years ago in 1994, claimed the Jock Paterson Cup with a 3-1 success against Blymhill Social Club's Owen Hughes in the final at St John’s Club in Kidderminster.

It was not a classic final and there were no significant high breaks, but enough to confirm that both players are still among the league’s highest performers, despite their longevity in the game.

With this being a 'best of five' frame match, there was always the possibility that it would be a long night, and it proved to be the case, with lots of safety play from both players.

Thomas took the first frame thanks to breaks of 30 and 28, with Hughes conceding with colours still on the table.

The second frame was a real cat and mouse affair that took close to one hour to complete, with Thomas eventually triumphing 67-33.

Hughes hit back to win the next following breaks of 32 and 23 that saw Thomas throw in the towel with the colours left.

But Thomas then sealed the deal in frame four to add to his superb record in the competition.

He will collect the trophy at the league’s annual presentation evening at Highley Working Men’s Club on June 20.
