Goalscoring defender Will Boyle wants more as Shrewsbury Town man singles out coach for set piece impact

Central defender Will Boyle is arguably the most in-form goalscorer in the Shrewsbury Town squad at the moment amid their turnaround in form - but he wants more

The former Cheltenham Town and Huddersfield Town defender arrived at Salop this summer from rivals Wrexham - and like most of the new recruits endured a frustrating start to the League Two campaign.

But in recent weeks things have begun to click collectively and personally for Boyle.

Salop strung three clean sheets together last month and in the league they are unbeaten in their last four with two wins and two draws - with Boyle netting in two of his last three league outings.

They continued their recent upturn in form with an FA Cup win over South Shield last week - and return to league action this weekend with a tricky trip to Crewe.

The 30-year-old defender is keen to not rest on his goalscoring laurels - and has singled out a Salop coach for special praise when it comes to being more potent from set pieces.

He said: "I wish I probably should have had a couple more and could have, but could have rather than should have.

We do work really hard on it. Pash (Sean Parrish) looks like he gives himself sleepless nights at times trying to come up with creative corners and wide free kicks and set plays.

"But he doesn't leave any stone left unturned by the looks of it.

"He does really analyse and gets the nuts and bolts of it. So from that point of view, we're glad to have been able to pay him back with a couple of successful ones.

"And like you say, the gaffer's mentioned it a couple of times in the press and he alluded to it a couple of weeks ago that we should be doing better.

"Like I said, I think I could have had a couple more. And we have got threats from all over the pitch with it.

"It's something that for me, I see it can be a major piece of our armoury really moving forward."
