'For a long time now': Rob Edwards hails 'competitive' Wolves as he eyes strong season finish after Arsenal comeback

Rob Edwards insists Wolves have consistently showed over recent months that they are a competitive team in the Premier League - despite still sitting bottom of the table.

Edwards had a rough run of results having taken over from Vitor Pereira - but has managed to turn around the performances of his players.

Their sensational comeback draw against league leaders Arsenal meant they have been beaten just three times in the last eleven outings - with two of those being against Chelsea and Man City.

In amongst that run there have been a lot of draws - with Wolves still only on ten points from 27 games.

But he believes his side has proved they can be competitive against Premier League sides between now and the end of the season.

And asked whether the players can use the Arsenal comeback as a springboard to finish the season strongly, Edwards said: "They should do.

"It's three defeats in 11 games and two of those were against Chelsea and Man City. So, we're actually doing all right.

"I know there's draws in there and we would like to win more games, but we're competing well against a lot of teams.

"I know the narrative at the moment, we're bottom of the league and we are struggling in the league, but there's a good chunk of games out there where we're competing and the lads are fighting.

"We're not perfect. We're still getting a lot wrong, but there's a spirit there and I think what happened on the weekend in a really different game would have helped and then what's happened tonight certainly will as well.

"There'll be a buoyant mood around the place, even though we have not won the game, it feels a bit like it.

"But for a long time now, we've been competitive."

After conceding just five minutes into the game against the Gunners - it looked as though Wolves were in for a difficult evening.

They rallied though and went close through Adam Armstrong before the leaders bagged a second goal.

However, Hugo Bueno's strike was followed by Tom Edozie's injury time equaliser to hand Wolves a deserved point.

On Wolves' second half display, the manager added: "We really tried to step forward and be aggressive, and you know then you're running a little bit of a risk.

"They could find pockets of space or get behind you, because they're a team that looks to try and get behind quick, but we had to be ready for that, and we were.

"Apart from the second goal, I can't really recall too many dangerous moments in the second half for us. Big credit to the lads."
