Wolves boss Walter Zenga: Brian Clough is my idol

Walter Zenga claims it will be an honour to shake the hand of Nigel Clough tomorrow after describing the Burton boss's father Brian as his 'idol'.

The Wolves head coach was a teenager growing up in Italy when Clough the elder led Nottingham Forest to back-to-back European Cup wins during the early 1980s.

It was a triumph which captured the imagination of a young Zenga and, in the build-up to tomorrow's game, he has revealed himself to be something of a student of the legendary manager.

He said: "For me it is going to be an honour to shake the hand of Mr Clough because his father was a legend and my idol. I know everything about him.

"When Nottingham Forest won the European Cup I was 19 years old. Then I read a lot of books about his history and what he did, not only in Nottingham but what he did at Derby. It was fantastic."

Zenga is also a great admirer of the younger Clough, who brings his Burton team to Molineux aiming to continue a fine start to the season which has already seen the Brewers, in their first campaign in the second tier, beat two promotion favourites in the shape of Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County.

"I respect Nigel," he said. "He has had a fantastic career as a coach with experience in the Championship. He is a very smart coach I know. It is going to be a good game."
