What Rob Edwards said about Mateus Mane's Wolves future after stunning strike in Fulham clash

The youngster has burst onto the scene at Molineux this season.

Mateus Mane bagged his third Wolves goal in their final home game of the campaign against Fulham at Molineux on Sunday.

The 18-year-old has burst onto the scene this season - playing a key role since the Christmas period in the Wolves starting line-up.

He scored twice earlier in the year and has been a rare shining light in what has otherwise been a dismal campaign for Wolves - who are heading back to the Championship after an eight year stay in the Premier League.

Mane’s form since the turn of the year has led to speculation over his future. Earlier in the season, the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United were being linked with a move for the youngster.

And last week, it was claimed that Nottingham Forest are keen on Mane. The youngster was handed his senior debut last season by former Wolves boss and current Forest chief Vitor Pereira.

Mane penned a new and improved deal at Wolves earlier this season - with the Portugal under 21 international under contract at Molineux until June 2029.

There is set to be further speculation this summer - but Wolves boss Rob Edwards gave a defiant answer when asked where the youngsters’ future lies.

He told the BBC: “People will just pick up on the goals. He scored some important ones early on against West Ham and Everton and they are expecting him to continue to do that.

“It is really difficult, especially at this level.

“He will have ups and downs but he has learned a lot, he has a great attitude and his overall performance was good today, he worked tirelessly and he was committed.

“The exciting thing is he is not the finished article, he is not going to be at his age.”

Asked what the future holds for Mane, Edwards said: “With us. He will be with us.”
