Rob Edwards sacked: His seven-month Wolves journey
Rob Edwards has been sacked at Wolves.
Rob Edwards’ tenure at Wolves lasted just seven months as the club today made the decision to sack him.
The 43-year-old arrived on November 12 to replace Vitor Pereira but will now not get the chance to lead them into the upcoming Championship season, with Cesar Peixoto due to take over.
Here we look at his short journey as Wolves boss.
Controversy
The former Wolves player, academy coach and one-time interim boss was going well with Middlesbrough when Wolves came knocking.
Edwards made the decision to leave his Championship promotion-chasing side to take over at the Premier League’s bottom club and he received a lot of criticism from the footballing community.
Boro fans were furious, while pundits questioned his decision to join a club destined for relegation.
Although his improved wages would have been a factor, Edwards was also able to move closer to his family and he insisted it was a dream of his to manage Wolves.

Bad start
Edwards inherited a terrible side that were winless in the Premier League and low on confidence.
As a result, he was unable to have a new manager bounce and lost his first seven games in charge.
It was not until the December 30 game at Old Trafford when Wolves finally got a point, while the first win came the following game as they beat West Ham.

Brief revival
That United game sparked a five-game unbeaten run in all competitions.
Bad spells followed, but a brief revival in late February and early March saw Wolves win back-to-back top flight matches against Villa and Liverpool at Molineux.
They then came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Brentford in the next league game, to give some hope a miraculous survival attempt.
Poor end
But those hopes were quickly dashed when Wolves returned from a month off to lose 4-0 at West Ham.
Including that game and the Brentford game, Wolves ended the campaign winless in eight and losing half of them.

Fans began to turn and pressure mounted on the head coach, as the season finished with a draw at Burnley.
Backing
Despite all the noise, Wolves insisted that they were backing Edwards.
The fans’ forum saw chairman Nathan Shi outline the future and privately they were supporting the head coach.

Wolves then signed Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez in a superb start to the summer that had fans finally feeling positive again. Edwards was also heavily involved in the recruitment.
But in the same week they made the shock decision to sack Edwards after just 211 days and 30 games in charge.
