Boss Mick McCarthy made the enquiry this week as the Molineux men's injury problems mount - but was told that at the moment Evans is still part of United's first teams plans.
The Wolves boss had hoped to seal a two-month loan for the Northern Ireland international, and has still not written off the chances of taking the highly-rated defender.
McCarthy also enquired about Birmingham defender Matt Sadler after watching Blues' behind-closed-doors reserve clash with Villa - but was knocked back by boss Steve Bruce.
With question marks over the fitness of first choice duo Jody Craddock and Gary Breen, boss McCarthy is looking to secure short-term reinforcements to cope with the strain of three games in seven days.
The only recognised senior centre-backs at the club who are definitely fit are Neill Collins and Darren Ward. Breen had a second injection on his troublesome knee this week but is understood to be at least ten days away from returning to training.
And that has prompted McCarthy to make enquiries to several Premiership clubs this week.
"We're always looking at players and we will keep looking," boss McCarthy confirmed today.
"I have a list of players who I might think 'If that player is injured I might ask about him'. It is something I've done in the past and it's something I do now.
"When you do have players injured you have a bit of a nose around and see what players would be available and who would be prepared to loan someone out. That is forward planning really in case you have any problems."
Wolves host second-placed Bristol City at Molineux tomorrow with Andy Keogh set to return up front alongside Jay Bothroyd as they look to bounce back from last week's defeat at Ipswich.
