'Everyone is fully behind him' - Wolves defender backs Rob Edwards
Wolves played out a draw with Fulham on Sunday.
David Moller Wolfe claims the squad are ‘fully behind’ Wolves head coach Rob Edwards.
Already-relegated Wolves are winless in their last seven Premier League matches and Edwards has been under fire from unhappy supporters.
Wolfe was recalled to the team for the draw against Fulham, and as the team prepare for a final day clash with Burnley in the hope of winning and finishing 19th, Wolfe says the players are backing Edwards to turn it around in the long-term.
When asked if the players are behind the head coach, Wolfe said: “100 per cent. Since they've come in, they've been fantastic, the whole staff. Everyone is fully behind him.
“We should have won the game, and that would be an even better end to the season here at home.
“We’ve still got one game left, and don't want to finish bottom of the league, so it’s a big game next week against Burnley. We hope to go above them on the table.”
He added: “We wanted to give the fans some hope for next season. We wanted to finish on a positive and a point on Sunday, the way the season has been going, is positive, I think. So we were happy with that.
“It would be nice bringing more positive vibes to the next season, where we have a clear goal that we want to go straight back up, so that will be important.”
The Fulham fixture was Wolfe’s first start since March 3, as he has had to bide his time behind first choice Hugo Bueno.
It may have been Wolfe’s last appearance at Molineux with the defender likely to have interest from other clubs in the summer - after Roma and Nottingham Forest both made moves for him in January.
The Norwegian was pleased to be back in the side but felt Wolves could have been more ‘ruthless’.
Wolfe said: “It was an okay performance from us, I think.
“We had enough chances to win the game, but we needed to be a bit more ruthless, everyone, when we got chances, and be more decisive in the final moments, and then we would have got the three points.
“It was tough last week, and the last weeks have been tough because we've been conceding easy goals, and way too many at set pieces. It was time to show good character.
“It’s obviously been tough for me, not playing as much as I want, and I've been training very hard, trying to do everything to get back in the team.
“I was happy with 85 minutes on the pitch. I was a bit tired at the end because I haven't played as much lately, but I'm satisfied.”
