'Do your job' - Rob Edwards bemoans decision making among Wolves squad

The Wolves boss cut an angry figure in his press conference.

Rob Edwards has condemned his side’s ‘crazy’ decision making after Wolves slumped to defeat at Brighton.

After going 1-0 down inside the opening minute, Wolves conceded again four minutes later from a set piece in which towering defender Lewis Dunk was being marked by much smaller midfielder Joao Gomes at the back post.

An angry Edwards was beside himself in his post-match press conference when asked if J.Gomes marking Dunk was a tactical instruction or an on-field decision.

“It wasn't planned,” he said.

“It was a decision that they just decided to make at that moment.”

When asked how he can account for errors like that, Edwards added: “I can't, but we've had a lot of it.

“That's why we are where we are. A crazy decision.”

The head coach even seemed to hint that the players do not care, when quizzed about the perception from supporters that they have downed tools.

“I agree with it,” he said.

“There's a lack of focus there from the beginning, people not valuing doing their job.

“That's why we are where we are. We've had too many of them.

“There's been too many games where we've actually done all right and you can argue, if we don't make those stupid mistakes, then the game could have been all right.

“They're better than us, I hold my hands up, we know that anyway. We know we're going to have to maybe ride our luck at times, but we'll be in the game and we'll have our moments, which we did.

“Even at 2-0 down we have our moments.

“But don't go off-piste and just do what you want from a set-piece, which is really important. Especially on the run that we have.

“We've done set-pieces for the last two days. Do your job.”

At a time when Wolves are being relegated with a whimper and in need of some inspiration, from a performance or result, their display at the Amex was met with boos.

Edwards was furious with his side’s disastrous start which cost them any chance at a result.

“It’s incredibly frustrating,” he said.

“It looked like we were still in a nice hotel for the first five minutes.

“We get the throw in and what are Brighton really good at? They're really good at pressing as soon as they lose the ball, they're really good at jumping on anything square or backwards.

“In the first half, there was too much square and backwards and not enough being positive.

“The start of the game was atrocious. We found ourselves 1-0 down before we really had a kick and then the defending for the corner was horrible.

“You do your job. There were a couple of people not doing their jobs.

“2-0 down after five minutes against a team that's already better than you anyway, you've got slim to no chance.”
