Wolves need to finish strongly ahead of their biggest summer in recent history
Dave Edwards’ latest column as the former Wolves midfielder discusses their draw at Sunderland, the final three games and a huge summer ahead.
While Wolves managed to get a point, three points was almost a must considering the way the game played out.
Unfortunately, the atmosphere before the game did have a bit of a pre-season feel to it. 29,000 was the attendance but there didn’t feel like there were that many fans there.
The North Bank looked half empty, which was a shame, but understandable considering how the season has played out.
Although Sunderland weren’t amazing, they were far superior to Wolves in the early knockings of the game.
They got themselves in front with a really poor set piece goal. Pedro Lima got lost underneath the ball.

Then Wolves got a lifeline with the sending off for a hair pull. I don’t think it should be a red card but I was grateful on this occasion that it was.
For the rest of the first half, Wolves didn’t really do enough to get back into it, but they had a really good go at the start of the second half.
They just lacked that bit of quality and you really wanted Wolves just to let the handbrake off, especially once we got a goal back.
Three points would have a massive impact compared to getting the draw, or losing.
The Wolves fans would’ve wanted them to really go for it: throw caution to the wind and if you get sucker punched at the other end then so be it.
It didn’t quite work out like that. Tolu Arokodare was involved in a lot of the talking points with the hair pull and that huge chance at the end of the game.

You’d be hoping a Premier League striker would be able to put it away. It was an awkward height for him, but I think a fully firing Tolu would be finishing that.
Unfortunately that’s the way it seems to be with a lot of Wolves players at the moment.
Pedro Lima got his start which was good to see, but unfortunately the young Brazilian didn’t really make the most it.
He has got so much talent but wasn’t really able to show his attacking flair too much.
I think he’s a player that Rob Edwards sticks with and exposes him in these last few games because he will learn a lot and get so much better.
Rodrigo Gomes came on in the second half and had a massive impact. He really elevated Wolves from an attacking point of view and it would be nice to see him do that more consistently when he starts.

He definitely does seem to be better as an impact player at the moment.
The one shining light was Andre. Absolutely brilliant in midfield - the way he breaks up play, the way he keeps the ball.
A player that I expect to be at another club next season. If somehow Wolves are miraculously able to keep him then that would be incredible.
Edwards has been desperate to finish this season strongly - with results and goals just to try and lift the optimism of the fan base.
This summer is probably their biggest in recent history. They have to get it right to turn this ship around next season.
Wolves will undoubtedly add quality to be at the top end of the Championship, it doesn’t just get given to you and it needs to be a well-worked machine from top to bottom.
But it isn’t a given and I’ve been part of a team which was relegated back-to-back. So I know it can happen but Wolves will want to be around those top places for certain.
