Dave Edwards: Video nasties but Wolves need to be more careful
I saw another positive Wolves display amid the chaotic controversy at Craven Cottage.

I don’t think the visitors were at their absolute best by any stretch of the imagination, but in recent years we’ve seen Wolves go to places like Fulham and not really be able to get going or look a threat – though I know last year was one of the better away performances under Julen Lopetegui.
First of all it’s about being able to go away, to be resilient, play as a unit, have a togetherness – but most of all it’s creating chances.
They scored two goals, had other chances, got in good areas which didn’t quite result in a goal. But the signs look promising to me. They just need to keep building on that momentum.
In Wolves now, if they go a goal down – as has happened a few times – it’s not panic stations. They believe they can create chances.
It was a terrific goal from Matheus Cunha. Bellegarde was brilliant, the more games he plays the better he’ll get, in the absence of Pedro Neto having him go past players is important. It’ll be great when they’re both involved.
I love the way Gary O’Neil communicates with the fans. He’s a brilliant ambassador for the club because you can see how much it means to him. I loved his comments on Sky about being at a huge football club.
Wolves are a massive club, it’s a big job for him. Not many people gave him a chance when he joined. There were probably other people out there more fitting, but he’s grabbed it with both hands.
He’s doing so well on the pitch and also really connecting with the fans and we haven’t had that since Nuno. I’m sure I write on behalf of all fans that we’re proud to have him as manager. The travesty in all of the controversy is the referee was sent to the screen for a clear and obvious error for the second penalty and not the first. That’s what I can’t fathom VAR have decided.
Fulham’s first penalty should never have been given. You can quite clearly see on some angles Semedo won the ball. Other angles went against him, I feel the replays kept showing the damning TV angles. He’s clearly won the ball.
The Harry Wilson one – I can see why it’s given. If it was Wolves, I’d want a penalty. There was contact to go down coming in on Joao Gomes’ blindside. But I don’t see it as that much of an error to send the referee to the screen.
The Vinicius incident with Max Kilman, that has to be a red card. I know there’s not a lot of contact but you can’t do that as a footballer. It was a genuine movement towards Kilman’s head. If it was Matheus Cunha or Hwang Hee-chan they’d have made the most of it and he’d have been sent off. Kilman is trying to stand his ground – but that’s where the referee needs help. Kilman and Wolves are being punished for the captain not rolling around.
Tim Ream should’ve been sent off too, for a second yellow as last man for the Wolves penalty.
For the four decisions that went against Wolves, probably one of them was justified – though I’m not 100 per cent.
The other three were fundamentally wrong and it’s become a farce now. Wolves would be up to seventh with these points added they’ve deserved.
If Wolves are seventh, the praise Gary O’Neil would be getting from the outside world would be huge and his reputation would be going from strength to strength.
Despite this, I do think O’Neil has to tell his players they are putting themselves in positions time and again for the referee and VAR to make decisions.
That’s a disappointment. The Fabio Silva one at Sheffield United, Hwang against Newcastle, Joao Gomes and Semedo from Monday, all where players have to be more aware in the box.
In some of those cases there’s been chances to clear. We have to be more careful in the box.
