West Brom's January transfer recruit hopes to rediscover consistency at The Hawthorns

Goalkeeper Max O'Leary wants to regain the tag of Mr Consistent between the sticks for new club Albion.

O'Leary departed boyhood club Bristol City in January after 18 years at Ashton Gate for a short-term six-month contract at The Hawthorns.

The Republic of Ireland international, 29, has since appeared five times for the Baggies - starting four - after being recruited as number one over academy graduate Josh Griffiths. Albion's other senior keeper Joe Wildsmith was allowed to join Middlesbrough on loan.

O'Leary was an ever present between the sticks for more than two seasons for the Robins, clocking up 125 consecutive appearances, and wants to prove his consistency again.

O'Leary said: "I had that experience out on loan beforehand and once I established myself I managed to stay in and play 125 games in a row in the Championship, which I'm pretty proud of.

"I managed to get through that after I had some troubles with injury at the end of last season. I just love playing and there's nothing that can beat it.

"You can't (take it for granted). You never know when it's your last game, which is a bit sombre to say, but that's just life. You've just got to enjoy every moment.

"I think that's what kept me there, just knowing what I need on a day-to-day basis and preparation and then the games take care of themselves."

Bath-born O'Leary made his international debut for Ireland, who he qualifies with through a grandparent, last June following a second consecutive campaign as the Robins number one, in which he helped his side to a play-off place.

The shot-stopper penned a short-term deal at The Hawthorns with his long-term future up in the air.

He added: "I think just one game at a time at the moment. I'm enjoying it so far. Obviously we are where we are and it's a challenge, but it's one that I'm going to relish and try to help out where I can."
