West Brom debrief: Mason future questions deafening, a goalkeeper call and discipline problems

Albion's travel sickness reached desperate new lows with a 10th straight away defeat in last-gasp Leicester woe.

Here are some of the defeat's talking points in the Baggies debrief.

Mason's future

The fact Leicester made it 10 on the spin brings a new low and level of unacceptance. Hopefully it is the nadir.

Ironically, the display brought some of the best football Ryan Mason's side have played in a number of months.

But it matters not. Albion lost. Again.

And now the calls against the head coach from sections of the support have grown louder than ever. "We want Mason out" and "Ryan Mason get out of our club" echoed around the King Power Stadium as it emptied. Albion's support were loud and passionate all night and maintained that volume for their plea to the owners.

Owners Bilkul were not present, or certainly Shilen Patel was not, but the chants were loud enough to reverberate and it is not the first time.

Club president Andrew Nestor's pre-Christmas statement ended in a call for patience, time and consistency. Since then Albion have lost three from four and extended their away run to the worst in almost a century.

In the eyes of some supporters, the ownership group have already shown a huge slice of patience with allowing Mason to continue in the role while the club - one with aspirations of fighting for promotion in a bang average Championship this season - have slumped to 18th.

There may be, of course, others factors at play here. Bilkul spelt out the financial picture and have already had to pay off one management team this year. The chances are they are not keen to shell out again. It is also the January window and there comes politics in the form of possible demands when appointing mid-window.

Whether more patience is extended beyond the coming days and to Swansea in the FA Cup on Sunday will further outline the owner's intentions.

Goalkeeper problem

Mason did not say it directly but his actions say as much having flitted between goalkeepers and not found an answer.

Albion have an issue between the sticks and it is costing them.

The Joe Wildsmith experiment finally ended after seven games but Albion and Josh Griffiths conceded two goals from three on target against Leicester.

Mason pointed out how many goals have been conceded from shots on target of late, with both goalkeepers. It is understood the goalkeeping situation was viewed as an issue by the previous management and that Albion are looking for options this month.

It is a position no club can afford to have a problem with. If Griffiths is to continue in the side he must help Albion to stop conceding so cheaply from almost every effort on target.

No lessons learned

Millwall. Norwich. Ipswich. Charlton. Coventry. QPR. Southampton. Hull. Swansea. Leicester. Zero points from 30 available.

There will be many fans who have done every single mile and every single minute.

Looking back over some of those defeats and, even the early ones, there are similar themes.

Themes Mason bemoaned in his post-match interviews at Leicester - a lack of "discipline" so often on show to see out a game. Be it to see out a draw or win.

Call it lack of concentration. Call it lack of discipline. Call it both. Albion are badly missing something and that is a huge part of it.
