Albion produced a comeback victory for the ages.

Super-sub Felix Horn Myhre struck his first league goal to cap a stunning 3-2 fight-back victory for Albion over Blackburn.

James Morrison’s men delivered an admirable response full of grit as the apprentice head coach got one over on his master Tony Mowbray in the away dugout.

The picture was very different after a quarter of an hour, where in-form Rovers’ Andri Gudjohnsen struck twice amid haphazard defending for a 2-0 away lead inside 12 minutes.

The Baggies were facing a bleak afternoon against their former title-winning boss, but striker Barney Stewart’s first goal for the club after 19 minutes was particularly useful.

A frantic contest cooled but Morrison’s men produced a stunning second period with powers of recovery that left The Hawthorns boinging with jubilation at full-time.

Influential star Isaac Price was wonderful and equalised with a little under 20 minutes left - with the boldest of ‘Panenka’ finishes from the penalty spot.

But the headlines were grabbed by an unlikely presence, Norwegian summer signing Horn Myhre, who emerged four minutes from time to slide in at the back post from compatriot Aune Heggebo’s header in the final minute.

The £2.5million recruit from Brann netted on his Baggies debut at Rotherham in the EFL Cup in early August, but waited more than two months for his first in the Championship - and produced it at a wonderful moment. It was a fine response for the 27-year-old after a poor miss in the home defeat to Birmingham seven days earlier.

Much-loved former boss Mowbray was left disappointed but it was quite the opposite for Morrison, whose side built on the comeback victory at Wrexham in midweek with a late winner for the ages to climb to fifth. It was deserved, overall, in a performance with 25 efforts at goal.

Albion will worry over a potential injury for Toby Collyer, who was withdrawn shortly before half-time with no serious issue noticed, but it was otherwise a day to remember.

The Baggies got off to the worst possible start as Gudjohnsen made some sloppy possession pay from 22 yards.

Right-back Brayann Pereira was dozing with the ball and has his pocket picked by Kristi Montgomery - and from there the Icelander did the rest.

Gudjohnsen fired a strike full of curl and power high into the right corner beyond Max O’Leary, with the in-form Irishman helpless.

Albion were lively in the final third despite the deficit. Callum Styles’ rocket from range was beaten away unconvincingly by Balazs Toth.

Midfielder Jayson Molumby endured a very poor opening and was guilty of miscuing a sitter moments later. A cross from the left by the recalled Jimmy-Jay Morgan was uncleared and fell to the Irishman eight yards out, but Molumby skewed off target.

A short while later and the Baggies found themselves two goals down as Gudjohnsen struck again, with Mowbray muted in celebration in the away dugout.

An outswinging corner from the right was poorly dealt with by Molumby as the hosts failed to clear and the away frontman fired high into the net.

Molumby’s woes extended as he was unable to held goalward from a fine first-time volleyed Isaac Price cross.

Seconds later the hosts were on the board. Gudjohnsen gave it away in his own half, and while Morgan is unable to take it on, the busy Rabby Nzingoula did well to dribble into the box.

The Frenchman waited too long to shoot but the ball dropped to Stewart, who finished well for a third goal in a lively 20 minutes.

A chaotic start was somewhat disrupted by niggles and refereeing-led pauses.

Blackburn lost Ryoya Morishita to injury before, worryingly, Collyer was withdrawn on 43 minutes after no apparent issue.

Disruption led to six minutes of stoppages and Albion’s Morgan might have done better in additional time as he headed over at the back post from a Price corner.

Albion started the first half well but lacked the necessary final touch, pass or cross.

Price fired a well-struck half-volley narrowly over but the visitors looked dangerous on the break once or twice. Gudjohnsen nodded a hat-trick chance from a corner over.

A huge opening dropped the hosts’ way just after the hour as Nzingoula lashed with his left foot after Stewart’s flicked header. It was the duo’s final touches before being withdrawn.

Albion’s way level arrived in the final 20 minutes. Pereira and Morgan combined as the latter fed Molumby. The Irishman had been much improved from his poor start and was clearly hacked down by Sean McLoughlin just inside the penalty area.

What the influential Price did next showed nerves of steel as the Northern Ireland star - fresh from a penalty saved for his nation - delivered in style.

He converted a ‘Panenka’ spot-kick - dinked down the middle underneath the crossbar as keeper Toth dived to the corner. It showed such character as Price smiled away.

With 20 minutes left the hosts pushed for a winner and an out-of-sorts Morgan almost provided it. The frontman, moved centrally after changes, got his header wrong from Molumby’s cross, but it hit a defender and was somehow saved by wrong-footed keeper Toth.

Substitute Heggebo nodded over shortly afterwards.

Morgan headed narrowly over from Diakite’s cross with a few minutes left leaving fans wondering if that was the moment.

It wasn’t.

Horn Myhre had not long been introduced and came to the party in some style.

Molumby’s cross from the right was a fine one, as Heggebo’s cool header sent it back into the path of his compatriot and Horn Myhre slid home to leave most of the stadium dancing in delight.
