'Too challenging for him to train' - West Brom forgotten man to see specialist over fitness issues
Forgotten man Tammer Bany will see a specialist having been ruled not fit enough to train with Albion.
Attacking midfielder Bany joined the club for £3.3million last January but has made just five substitute appearances since, four last term and one this season.
The 22-year-old endured physical issues while adjusting having moved from his birth country Denmark but picked up a serious hamstring injury during pre-season in Austria.
He has struggled to recover consistently and despite a very brief cameo at QPR in early December has been regularly missing from matchday squads and now Mason has thrown Bany's Albion future into doubt by revealing he is not fit enough to train regularly, let alone play.
"He needs to see a specialist," Mason told the Express & Star. "That's the reality.
"It's been challenging since he came over here to stay in the training programme - not the games programme - the training programme.
"That's his situation, so we'll see."
Asked what specifically Bany was struggling with, Mason added: "There's just a few things, from a muscular point of view.
"I think his body at the minute isn't aligned and it's too challenging for him to train."
Bany this year declared his allegiance to Jordan - who qualified for next summer's expanded World Cup - and made his international debut for the Middle Eastern nation in a friendly during the November international break.
He played 70 minutes and the start came before he had managed a start for his club side.
Bany rose through the levels of Danish football and had one year with top flight side Randers, with whom he impressed, before earning the move to The Hawthorns late in the 2025 winter window.
The Danish-born attacker is the second-largest fee spent by Albion owners Bilkul since their takeover almost two years ago. He is second to the £5m spent last summer on Aune Heggebo, who is Albion's top scorer this term with nine goals.
Meanwhile, Krystian Bielik and Jayson Molumby injury setbacks are not expected to sideline the duo for a lengthy period.
Defender Bielik (ankle) and midfielder Molumby (calf) missed the Boxing Day defeat to Bristol City and Mason confirmed neither were serious, but enough to rule them out of Monday's visit of QPR.
