'Not as good as we think we are' - James Morrison's reality check to West Brom as he makes 'big lads' suggestion
Scathing interim boss James Morrison delivered a reality check to Albion's squad and hinted at ripping up the approach in the desperate survival race.
Hapless Albion were beaten 2-1 at second-bottom Oxford on Saturday leaving Morrison, after the first match of his third stint as caretaker, claiming "maybe we're not as good as we think we are".
A visibly emotional and angry Morrison hit out at individuals and the collective after a limp display at the Kassam Stadium in another six-pointer. Albion remain one place and point outside the Championship drop zone and winless in the league in 2026.
A fuming Morrison said: "Maybe we're not as good as we think we are? Maybe we are where we are?
"You get what you deserve, really.
"I think it's the same story throughout the season, I didn't feel any threat in general play. I think they had one shot, late on when we were pushing and Max (O'Leary) saved it. Other than that, it was set-plays coming in the box, that was it."
Lowly Oxford scored their first home goals in seven games with an easy early double inside half hour from two set-pieces.
Morrison raged at an error involving Charlie Taylor to give the first corner away and lack of defending from Krystian Bielik and poor goalkeeping from O'Leary for the U's second goal.
But Albion were devoid of any attacking threat in a push to find an equaliser and Morrison added: "That's what I mean, do we go back and get the biggest players on the pitch and play for set-plays?
"Because that's how we look like scoring.
"I didn't see anyone taking (an opponent on), bar Mikey (Johnston) before he came off and Ollie (Bostock). I didn't see anyone taking a bit of pressure around the box, getting behind them enough.
"For two days that was all we've worked on.
"We're going to have to dissect it and show them what happened, and then try to put everything right and think of a way we can pick up results.
"Maybe we have to go back to five big lads, set-plays? You can probably sense I'm frustrated."
Meanwhile, the Baggies are awaiting news after they lost winger Johnston to what appears a serious ankle injury in the first half.
