'I knew they'd': Ex-West Brom man sold for £4m gives Albion survival view ahead of Hawthorns return

The former West Brom defender will make a return to The Hawthorns on Saturday.

Darnell Furlong is set for an emotional return to The Hawthorns on Saturday - with his Ipswich Town side battling for promotion.

The 30-year-old full back played 247 times for Albion spanning six years, having arrived from QPR back in 2019.

Son of former striker Paul, the right back was a mainstay for pretty much the whole time he was at Albion.

His departure came out of the blue last summer when he was sold to the Tractor Boys as Albion moved players on while dealing with PSR issues.

Albion sold Furlong for a reported £4m and so far it has been money well spent for the East Anglia side - with the full back starting 37 league games.

They head into the last two games neck and neck with Millwall on 39 points, although Ipswich have a game in hand over the London club.

Ahead of the game and Furlong’s return to Albion alongside another ex-Baggie in Cedric Kipre, he has been talking about Albion’s survival.

It was secured thanks to a win over Watford on Tuesday night and pending any potential points penalties for alleged financial breaches, the Baggies will be playing Championship football next season.

Furlong insists he was always confident they would pull through due to the quality.

He said: “It'll be nice to see some people there. It'll be strange going there as the away team, but I've done it before when I was at West Brom and went to QPR.

"We'll be going for the three points but it's nice to see them safe - I knew they'd get out, I knew they had the quality it was just a case of a bit of confidence - I'm happy for them but focused on us."
