West Brom win the race to sign £3million midfielder

The deal could rise to £7.6m with add-ons.

Albion have won the race to sign Manchester United’s Toby Collyer in a £3million deal.

The former loan midfielder, 22, is due to undergo a medical and become a key signing for the Baggies in the closing days of the summer transfer window.

After pipping Middlesbrough and Hull City to the move, the overall deal could rise to £7.6m - with add-ons including promotion, reaching Europe and Collyer playing for England.

Albion lost prospective club captain Alex Mowatt to Championship rivals Derby County on the eve of the new league season, which steered the club towards a new option to bolster the department.

Collyer endured an injury-hit loan at The Hawthorns and with Hull across last season. Muscle injuries limited his action for Albion to just 12 appearances - three starts - before a January recall. He went to promotion-winners Hull and played just five times, with one start.

Despite that, Albion are optimistic the midfielder’s injury troubles are a thing of the past.

The United prospect, who moved to Old Trafford from Brighton in 2022, underwent a fully-fit pre-season and is believed to be ready to go in competitive action.

Collyer would join a midfield department of Ousmane Diakite, Jayson Molumby, Felix Horn Myhre and Rabby Nzingoula.

Albion also want another striker before Tuesday night’s deadline. It remains to be seen how interested the Baggies are on right-back cover for Nolan Galves, given the impressive development of Alex Williams, 21, who shone at Newcastle in midweek.
