That is a major blow for the Bucks, who will now be without the tough-tackling 25-year-old for the difficult-looking cup trip to in-form Matlock on Saturday.

"We don't know whether he's torn it or pulled it, but he's got a problem with his groin," said assistant manager Larry Chambers, who will join boss Rob Smith in a scouting trip to watch their Derbyshire opponents in UniBond League action at Frickley tonight.

"He felt it five minutes before the end of the game on Saturday but we'd used all of our substitutes so he stayed on.

"I don't think that made it any worse and he'll see the physios tonight, but I think he'll be out for a minimum of two weeks.

"The problem with a groin injury is that if he comes back too early he could be out for four to six weeks.

"It's a blow because he's been having a great season. He started slowly but that was probably because he was getting to know the players around him.

"To me, he sums our side up. I said we would get better and evolve, and he's proving that. He's showing all the attributes we brought him in for."

Meanwhile, Chambers admitted they were still working hard to bring in a striker to strengthen the squad following the ankle injury that has ruled Justin Marsden out for three months.

"We are monitoring it but it's difficult getting the right person who will improve things," he added.

"We've been offered a couple of players from a Conference side this week, but I don't know if they would really help us or be any better than the strikers we have."
