Welsh blow can spur on Shrewsbury Town's Ryan Doble

Shrewsbury Town forward Ryan Doble has admitted his disappointment at missing out on a Welsh Under-21 swansong.

The former Southampton frontman was omitted from his country's 5-0 defeat in the Czech Republic on Monday.

That was their final UEFA qualifier and 21-year-old Doble is now too old to be considered for future fixtures.

"I made 11 appearances in this campaign," he said.

"I'm too old now so maybe the manager (Geraint Williams) wanted to have a look at new faces. You want to play any game for your country so I was disappointed I missed out. Hopefully I can do well here and one day I can get a chance at senior level."

Doble's immediate target is to make the breakthrough to Shrewsbury's first team after his summer arrival at the Greenhous Meadow.

"I'm just trying to work hard," he added.

"It's a big squad and a long season and I'm just hoping to get my chance. There's healthy competition throughout the team and Marvin (Morgan) and Terry (Gornell) have done very well.

"I just have to keep myself in the best shape possible and try to take my chance when it arrives."

Town have confirmed their second round Johnstone's Paint Trophy home clash with Crewe will take place on Tuesday, October 9 with a 7.15pm kick off.

Prices are £12 adults and £6 concessions. A family ticket for one adult and child under 16 is £15 with additional children £2 and one child under 11 going in free with a family ticket.

Season ticket holders have their seat reserved up until September 29, after which they will be released for general sale.
