'Unfinished business' - Josh Ruffels eager to help Shrewsbury Town climb table after extending stay

Josh Ruffels believes he has "unfinished business" at Shrewsbury Town and is determined to help the club them climb the League Two table.

The 32-year-old extended his stay with Salop until the end of the season last week after his initial short-term deal expired.

The midfielder, who has made 15 appearances since joining in October, is motivated to help Shrewsbury steer clear of danger.

"It's definitely unfinished business for this season," Ruffels said, explaining his decision to extend his stay.

"We want to make sure we get out of this tough place we're in, and I want to be a part of that and help the team.

"We're in a tricky spot and I'm trying to help as much as I can. I've enjoyed playing my football again. It was a tough summer trying to get a club, so I am glad I am settled now."

He added: "I want to put things right here and help the team get out of this position. No-one wants to be down there, especially on your CV, no-one wants a relegation, so we're going to fight as hard as we can to get out of this.

"It has been difficult the last couple of months. We've got to draw a line under that now.

"It's a new year and we've got to start building on some good performances and wins."

Ruffels has been reunited at Shrewsbury with head coach Michael Appleton, having previously played under him at Oxford United.

Appleton described Ruffels' extension as being like a new signing.

"Yes, I think so," he said. "I was always reasonably confident.

"But you can't come over as being overconfident in those situations because anything can happen. I was always pretty confident that we'd get him in the end. You get and understand that players want to basically exercise their rights and have a look.

"He's got a way up. Whether earning a few quid more but going down south is a better option. He's had a good look at us.

"He knows what he's getting. He knows what's expected. In a way, because of the situation that we've found ourselves in, it's a challenge and players like challenges.

"I think that probably attracted him as well."
