Tough call for Jon Taylor as he leaves Shrewsbury Town

Midfielder Jon Taylor admits leaving Shrewsbury Town was the "hardest decision" he has ever had to make.

Taylor, 21, has sealed a move to League One heavyweights Peterborough United, ending a six-year spell at the Greenhous Meadow.

In that time, the former Wigan Athletic youngster climbed through the youth team ranks at Town to become one of the club's most popular and influential players in recent season.

And following his move to London Road, on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee, he tweeted: "I want to thank the Shrewsbury fans for being so good to me over the years.

"I will always love the club. It was the hardest decision I have ever had to make. I'm going to miss the club as it was a huge part of my life but it is the right time to move on."

He admitted that he was 'gutted' to leave Town but is looking forward to the task of helping to guide Peterborough back to the Championship next season.

"I think it was the right time for me to move and to continue to develop as a player and continue to play at a higher level," said Taylor, who made 144 first team appearances for Town, scoring 19 goals.

"In the end we have all sat down and spoken about it and in the end I think it's the correct decision for me."

Taylor was Town's nine-goal top-scorer in the campaign just gone where he played 44 times, making it his most prolific season at the club.

And he is backing them to bounce straight back from last season's relegation under new boss Micky Mellon.

"I'm sure that Shrewsbury will be fighting to get back to League One and with the new manager coming in and Jacko staying on they have a great chance of achieving that.

"With the signings that they've made recently I think they have a great chance and I'll be cheering them along."

He was handed his debut in Town's 1-0 win away to Chesterfield on January 2, 2010 while he was still a youth team player.

And he became one of four players, along with Tom Bradshaw, Connor Goldson and Ryan Woods, to graduate from youth ranks to first team regulars in recent years.
