Tom Sang opens up on growing relationship with Shrewsbury Town summer recruit
Sang reveals what is working so well in Shrewsbury Town’s midfield and with set piece goals.
Tom Sang says it has been a “pleasure” to partner Jay Turner-Cooke in midfield for Shrewsbury Town.
The pair have struck up a partnership in recent weeks, coinciding with Salop’s upturn in form as Turner-Cooke settles into life at the club.
Sang, who has created more chances than any other player in League Two this season, believes his midfield partner is improving with every game.
He said: “Definitely. It’s working well, yeah.

“Obviously he’s a new lad and he’s getting to grips with the system and stuff really well.
“He looks like he’s getting better every single game, so it’s a pleasure to play next to him.”
In his second season at Shrewsbury, Sang has become a key figure under Gavin Cowan, while Turner-Cooke arrived from National League Halifax Town as part of the summer rebuild.
Sang believes their contrasting qualities complement each other well.
“I think so, yeah,” he added. “He’s really good at going the ball from deep positions and playing forward. The job is that when he does sit in there, that I get forward.”
The pair will hope to help Salop return to winning ways when they host Bristol Rovers at the Meadow this weekend.
Set pieces could again prove crucial, with Shrewsbury joint-top of League Two for goals scored from dead-ball situations this season, having netted six.

Sang, who regularly delivers the ball, stressed the importance of their work at both ends of the pitch.
“There’s obviously a lot of work on the training field on set pieces for and against,” he said.
“I think both boxes are so important. Defensively, we need to be as good as we can be on set pieces, because I think in this league, games can be won and lost by them.
“If we can be really good defensively and create a lot of chances when we get to take them ourselves. And I think that’s what we’re doing.”
