Tom Bayliss setting Shrewsbury goals

Tom Bayliss says things are ‘still clicking into place’ for him at Shrewsbury Town this season.

There was an awful lot of change at the club in the summer, with a new coaching structure and the midfielder, who signed from Preston last summer, picked up a nasty ankle injury which ruled him out for the closing stages of last season.

He has scored one goal this campaign, that was in the home win against Burton Albion. But, as with Shrewsbury in general, goals have been hard to come by and it is something Bayliss would like to address.

He said: “I have enjoyed it, I am learning and I feel like things are still clicking into place. For myself, obviously, I would like more goals and assists, but I think they are coming.

“I am in the right positions, and I feel I am performing at a level where at the moment I am getting back up to speed after my injury.

“I am getting really close to where I want to be and the goals and assists will come with that.

“You want to get back to where you were before your injury and that obviously takes time. It happened at the end of last season, and I had a full pre-season and that is more fitness-wise.

“Now with the training we are doing every day, I am feeling sharper and fitter so that is only going to benefit me.”

Town signed Taylor Perry in the summer after his contract came to an end with Wolves.

For the majority of the season, Perry and Bayliss have both been playing as number eights with Nohan Kenneh sitting just behind them shielding the back three.

And Bayliss believes the ‘energetic’ Perry has made a real impact since he arrived at the club. He said: “He has been really good. He has been really energetic and he gets around the pitch really well and he has real quality on the ball.

“It gives us another player in midfield that can be more attacking as well, so you can get more bodies forward.

“That is only going to help us create more chances and score more goals.”
