Shrewsbury wait on transfer window moves

Matt Taylor is unsure what the final week of the transfer window will bring for Shrewsbury Town.

Summer business has to be concluded by 11pm next Friday, with Town having already brought in 10 new players.

They have also re-signed Carl Winchester and Elliott Bennett who were at the club last season. Funds remain available to Taylor, but he is only looking for players who can go into his starting line-up.

“It is a difficult one to answer because you never know,” the boss said when asked about what the final week of the window looks like for his side.

“That is the brutal truth. I have said there are funds available. What will pop up, I don’t know.

“There will be be options there, I am sure. Will there be someone we were looking at that we were told was not available that becomes available, maybe.

“But anyone that we sign has to affect the starting XI. We are not going to be in the process of signing people for extra numbers.

“I do not see the value in that, both Micky (Moore) and I are of that opinion.

“If I stand here now and I am asked ‘are we going to sign anyone?’ I would say I do not know. I don’t see anyone leaving unless we get an astronomical offer, but again football is a crazy game so things will astound you as some things you just don’t know are going to happen.”

The Town boss, pictured, also confirmed that George Nurse has had surgery on his ACL injury which has ruled him out for the remainder of the season. Nurse went off with the injury in pre-season after he recently recovered from the exact same problem – which is incredibly unlucky.

The left wing-back’s injury forced Shrewsbury to look at a backup to Jordan Shipley at left wing-back with Mal Benning coming in from Port Vale. But now the boss has confirmed Nurse has had his surgery on the injury and now he begins the road to recovery for a second time.
