Shrewsbury Town's surge reignites takeover interest from potential buyers - CEO Liam Dooley

Shrewsbury Town’s recent revival has reignited takeover interest in the club, chief executive Liam Dooley revealed.

Dooley provided an update on the club's potential sale at the latest supporters' parliament meeting, revealing that interested parties have “reappeared” following Salop's upturn in form under new boss Gavin Cowan.

Dooley said: “It’s amazing what results can do. There were already talks ongoing with certain parties but following recent results some parties that we thought weren’t involved are now back in discussions.

“Many Football League football clubs are for sale right now, so it is very much a buyer’s market - with similar groups circulating around the numerous football clubs.

“We put our best foot forward every time. We are in a good place to be sold. We have a willing seller, we just need to find the right willing buyer.

“If we get the right person that wants to buy the football club and everything is agreed, then the transaction can happen as quickly as the EFL process would allow.”

In September, chairman Roland Wycherley said the club continued to work “tirelessly to find the right investment” and would move quickly once a suitable buyer was found.

Salop have boosted their League Two survival hopes with a strong run of results, and Dooley believes greater certainty over their divisional status could help accelerate talks.

He added: “If we continue on our run and secure our safety as soon as possible, then conversations can move on knowing our divisional status next year.

“If you're trying to sell something and there's a little bit of doubt in the background, that will always create discomfort with buyers. As soon as you add some stability in, things become more attractive again.

“Hopefully that will speed up the process.”
