Shrewsbury Town Women target cup glory in derby clash

Mia Evans has urged supporters to pack out the Croud Meadow as Shrewsbury Town prepare for a derby showdown with AFC Telford United.

Shrewsbury Town Women have issued a rallying cry ahead of this weekend’s cup final clash with local rivals AFC Telford United.

Town face Telford in the Tom Farmer Cup final on Sunday at the Croud Meadow. It will be a repeat of the final two years ago, when Salop overcame their neighbours to lift the county’s premier women’s knockout trophy.

Shrewsbury head into the clash in fine goalscoring form after a 6-0 thumping of Coventry Sphinx, followed by a 3-1 victory over Alvechurch last weekend.

Ahead of their shot at glory, midfielder Mia Evans urged supporters to turn out in force.

She said: “It’s amazing whenever we have a game at the stadium. We just encourage everyone to come down.

“It’s going to be a good game of football, there is a bit of a local rivalry as well.

“So hopefully we can get as many people down as possible to come and cheer us on. It will be a good watch.”

Evans netted her second goal for the club against Alvechurch with a superb long-range strike that flew past a crowd of defenders and the goalkeeper.

“It feels amazing to get another goal under the belt,” she added.

“When I have got the time and space like that I am obviously going to give it a go, and it went top-bins so I am pretty happy with the finish.”

Salop will bid to get their hands on some silverware on Sunday, with kick-off at 4.30pm.
