Shrewsbury Town player ratings: Hero rewarded with top mark in memorable win

Another relatively quiet afternoon due to the excellence of those in front of him. But when called upon he was strong, decisive and displayed impeccable handling. Including the one late shot on target.

Confident 7

SAM STUBBS

Strong and imposing in defence once again. And also making his presence felt at the other end with a first half header wide and second claimed by the keeper.

Strong 7

WILL BOYLE

The skipper led by example and took to the pitch despite being unable to train all week. Early shot blocked and also won the match-defining penalty.

Inspiring 7

JOSH RUFFELS

Not as influential as seven days earlier but still a positive contribution and a key part of such a strong Salop rearguard.

Contributed 6

LUCA HOOLE

Again an integral part of delivering the clean sheet alongside embarking on several dangerous breaks down the right. Always an outlet.

Willing 6

TOM SANG

League Two’s most prolific chance creator was perhaps nullified in that respect on a hard-fought afternoon. But neat and tidy and still produced some teasing crosses and corners.

Composed 6

JAY TURNER-COOKE

Early corners caused plenty of problems and a tantalising second half free kick flew across goal. Sadly, he was equally threatening to Shaq Forde and saw red for the challenge.

Mixed 6

KEVIN BERKOE

Shows great positioning when coming across to cover crosses from the left. Accurate distribution.

Forward-thinking 6

KIAN MCMAHON-BROWN

Continues to be the glue that links midfield to attack and carries and holds the ball impressively. Never hides.

Incisive 7

JOSH DAVISON

A Rovers return for Davison, who was constantly on the move and not giving the opposition a moment’s peace.

Presence 6

GEORGE LLOYD

Also never stopped running and offering himself. Should have had a first half penalty and made no mistake when the chance eventually came. Deserved matchwinner.
