Kevin Berkoe on his deadline-day move and looking to make a home at Shrewsbury Town
Kevin Berkoe opens up on his dramatic deadline-day move to Shrewsbury Town - and how he is settling in
Kevin Berkoe is determined to make a name and a home for himself at Shrewsbury Town.
Berkoe joined Salop on the final day of the January transfer window, with the deal completed just minutes before the deadline.
The 24-year-old has featured in every game since his arrival, starting all but one and impressing with his versatility at both left and right wing-back.
His move to Shrewsbury follows a nomadic spell earlier in his career, having had five loan moves from Salford City since 2020.
Asked if he is now looking to settle at Salop, Berkoe said: “Absolutely, yes.
“Obviously, we didn't have much time to sort the transfer all out, but we got there in the end.
“I think there was like 45 minutes left. We got it sent by email. We wanted to get it done quickly and as soon as possible, because time was running out.
“It's been good. Obviously, when I first came in, we were on the up. I have settled in quite easily.
“I know a couple of the staff and a few of the players as well from before. So it's been good.”
The defender is currently commuting from Manchester, where he has been based since joining Salford. Earlier this season, he spent time on loan at National League leaders Rochdale.

Berkoe became Gavin Cowan’s first signing after the head coach took charge, with the pair previously working together at AFC Telford United - a key factor in the move.
He added: “Massively. If you know someone already who is in charge, that's where your confidence comes from.
“You've got to also repay that (faith) back to him, which hopefully I've done.
“I've got to keep going. There's six games left. I've just got to keep stepping on the gas and not easing off.”
Berkoe began his career in Chelsea’s academy before moving to Wolves, where he worked with Shrewsbury coach Sean Parrish.
He joined Town from Salford for an undisclosed fee and made an immediate impact. In just his third appearance, he provided an assist for George Lloyd in an emphatic win over Swindon Town.
Looking to the future, Berkoe is eager to keep progressing.
“As a player, you want to be ambitious and move up the leagues, which I want to do.
“But right now, it's obviously about settling in and then see what next season brings. I'm loving it here.”
