Shrewsbury Town can “give anyone a game” says captain John Marquis
Marquis expects a tough test against play-off chasing Oldham Athletic where Town will look to confirm their safety
John Marquis is fired up to help Shrewsbury Town potentially secure their League Two safety against Oldham Athletic.
Salop could confirm their Football League status even with a defeat at the Meadow tomorrow. They face a play-off-chasing Oldham side that has suffered just one defeat in its last 10 matches.
Town will be looking to bounce back from a narrow midweek defeat to league leaders Bromley.
Club captain Marquis, who has recently returned from injury and featured in the last three games, believes Salop can compete with anyone in the division.
He said: “They're on a good run of form. They've got aspirations of possibly trying to nick into the play-off spots.
“Our destiny is in our own hands. If we apply ourselves correctly, if we are efficient and we're reliable in what we're trying to do in our processes tomorrow, we believe we can give anyone a game in this league.
“For 30 minutes, we showed it against the top of the League at Bromley the other day. We've beaten Swindon Town, we've beaten Notts County, we know it's in there.
“It's just making sure that we're mentally tuned in to be prepared for what's ahead.
“The gaffer and the staff have put in hours and hours of hard work and dedication to make sure we're as prepared as we can be going into every game.
“So, there'll be no stone unturned and we'll make sure we're prepared in the best way possible to try and beat Oldham.”
