Shrewsbury Town boss makes mid-table claim as he continues to look up
Shrewsbury boss Gavin Cowan turned his attention immediately to the away tests ahead - and insisted a mid-table position is of no interest.
Ambitious Shrewsbury boss Gavin Cowan today urged his players to continue their upward momentum in back-to-back away games by insisting: “I’m not interested in mid-table.”

Having steadied the ship after arriving last season and leading Salop to safety, after a slow start to the current campaign the team are now building momentum,
Saturday’s 1-0 win against Bristol Rovers their third victory in the last six league games, which also featured two draws.
“I would love to be romantic about it and tell you how much I enjoy it,” he said of Saturday’s drama as the nine-men got over the line.
“But there’s probably a good 10 seconds where you get to enjoy it and then you’re on to the next one.
“It’s a very strange occupation. I’m not sure why idiots like me do it, but we seem to want to go in there, be part of something and that was my whole point of coming to the football club.
“I wanted to come here and be part of my community and when you watch something suffer for a while, if you feel like you’ve got a skillset to help, then you should stick your neck above the parapet and then that’s what I feel like I’ve done.
“We’ve spoken a lot about big success and big failure, and I’m not interested in mid-table.
“I want to play all the cards and make sure that we end up right in the mix.
“It’s a brilliant football club that needs to come alive again and I just feel like the heart is starting to beat a bit more.”
Next up is tomorrow’s trip to Crawley Town, with Cowan hoping to continue to show Shrewsbury’s improving ‘mentality and culture’ heading into the next phase of games.
He added: “Saturday felt like a humungous effort, but I want it to feel like the norm.
“I want Shrewsbury Town to be winners, and not just ‘it’s typical Shrewsbury Town’.
“There is a bit of swimming against the tide but we are coming out of that phase, and trying to get into a rhythm of mentality and culture.
“If we can just be a little bit more clinical in that final third, we know that there are big achievements here.”
