Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner wary of Sheffield United revival

Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner has warned his side to be wary of a galvanised Sheffield United under Nigel Clough.

Turner's side will host the Blades, who appointed Clough last week, in an important League One clash pitting two sides in the lower reaches of the division.

Town will start the game in 18th place and winless in their last three, while United will arrive in?Shropshire one point behind and two places below them.

But they have won two of their last three, including Clough's first game in charge, last Saturday's 3-1 victory over Crewe.

And Turner said: "Sheffield United have obviously been down there near the bottom of the table but a new manager coming in a week ago will galvanise the team into better performances.

"They couldn't win a game, they could barely get a draw. Then we are due to play them and Nigel Clough is appointed. They get a win under him so I think it just makes it that much more difficult.

"But we are at home. We haven't played badly at home so we have got to go into the game with confidence if we can and make sure we get the right result."

Turner has sympathy for his Blades counterpart, who was sacked by Derby County in September more than four years in charge.

He believes Clough is the right man to lead Sheffield back to the higher divisions, but is keen to delay any march up the table by them this weekend.

He said: "Sheffield United should be playing at a higher level and over the longer term I am sure he will turn it round. I'm hoping over the shorter term he doesn't."

Tomorrow's match will also bring Town up against former player Stephen McGinn, who joined United in the summer after a spell on loan at the Greenhous Meadow last season from Watford.

Turner, who tried to sign McGinn permanently, said: "We know what he can do. He is good on the ball, a good passer, so we will have to guard against that."
