Shrewsbury Town backing is a boost for boss

Boss Graham Turner says he retains the backing of Shrewsbury chairman Roland Wycherley – but admits he is taking nothing for granted.

Many Town fans have been left frustrated by the team's recent slump in home form, which has seen them beaten in their last five matches at the Greenhous Meadow.

And despite taking seven points from a possible nine in their last three away games, Shrewsbury found themselves just two points above from the League One drop zone prior to today's trip to MK Dons, having played at least one game more than most of their rivals.

But asked if things remained very amicable between him and the chairman, Turner said: "I think the chairman understands the situation. He has been very supportive and I think that support will continue.

"I take nothing at all for granted. It is a precarious profession and when you are struggling you have got to face reality but I think the chairman has been very, very supportive and I expect that to continue."

Turner is working hard to bolster his team with new signings during the January transfer window in a bid to improve their fortunes. And he yesterday snapped up winger Sidney Schmeltz from Oldham Athletic on loan until the end of the season.

He is also hoping to bring in at least two more new additions, although he has not ruled out departures.

Turner admitted last week that there had been 'one or two enquiries' about players in his squad and, asked if there could be anyone leaving in the next week or so, he said: "I think that depends on the other clubs.

"I don't think we can push anybody out of the door. I think other clubs have got to be interested and prepared to do some sort of deal before we can change. That's how it will stand until the end of January."

Turner's squad has been left a little light on numbers recently with injuries to Darren Jones (ankle) and Luke Summerfield (thigh) arising this week.
