Town boss Micky Mellon said the process of finding the right candidate had been extremely thorough and he was convinced they have got the right man in place to help take the club's youth set up forward.

He said: "I want to see a youth policy that people talk about where people say 'if you want to see how a football club should operate a youth policy then go and see Shrewsbury's.

"We have interviewed so many applicants for the job and we spoke to Ian Dawes who has been at Liverpool. He has great connections all around the area, he is massively ambitious and wants to show us how good he is at what he does."

Dawes holds a UEFA A Licence and spent last season as head coach at Malta Premier League club Floriana. He previously spent nearly 10 years in different roles working within the Liverpool academy at Anfield."
