Shrewsbury Town 0 Walsall FC 1 - match report and pictures

[gallery]A Milan Lalkovic strike eight minutes after half time was enough to give Walsall a second win in five weeks over Shrewsbury Town.

Town should have gone ahead after just two minutes when Tom Eaves pounced on a defensive blunder.

But Walsall goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell saved well from Gozie Ugwu's low effort, from Eaves's pass.

Ugwu struck the side netting soon afterwards, having been sent clear by Luke Summerfield.

But Andy Butler went close for the visitors with a first half header and Shrewsbury goalkeeper Chris Weale did well to deny further efforts from Romaine Sawyers, Craig Westcarr and Sam Mantom before the interval.

He could do nothing to prevent Lalkovic opening the scoring just eight minutes into the second half though after the Chelsea loanee beat the offside trap before dribbling round Weale.

Town should have leveled though when second half substitute Jon Taylor and Ryan Woods combined to set up Eaves for a tap-in, only for him to prod over from just a few yards out.

And Walsall almost put into their own net from a Town corner late on, Mantom clearing a wayward header off the line.

Craig Westcarr should have made it 2-0 in stoppage time though, slotting past the far post from a tight angle. But it mattered not as Walsall held on for the victory.
