Shrewsbury table offers for two new players

Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner today revealed he has tabled offers for two players as he bids to strengthen the club's hand in the January transfer window.

The Town boss was among the quickest to the draw when the market re-opened yesterday having already signed Charlton defender Yado Mambo on New Year's Eve.

The 21-year-old's loan deal until the end of the season went through in time for him to feature as a late substitute in Town's 1-0 win at Coventry City yesterday.

But that shouldn't be the last of Turner's business, although he concedes he faces tough competition from higher clubs for his targets.

Turner said: "We are in talks with several clubs and we have made a couple of offers for players, so we will see whether that materialises in time for Saturday.

"You always get agents who feel their players will go to a bigger club than ours. So we are waiting on those deals and we have been doing that work for a number of weeks now."

Boosting the midfield could be a priority after Aaron Wildig limped out of the action at the Ricoh Arena with a knee injury.

Luke Summerfield remains sidelined with a hernia problem, while Paul Parry has missed two of the holiday games due to illness.

But Turner added: "We are after good players in any position. They are few and far between.

"We have got some in our side at the moment, but we want someone who will come in and augment our squad."

Marvin Morgan's second-half strike secured a first away success of the campaign and completed a surprise double over the Sky Blues. Shrewsbury have now lost just once in their last nine outings.

But Turner warns, despite their revival in form, that his players shouldn't assume Saturday's trip to struggling Scunthorpe will be easier than their holiday games against Notts County, Brentford and Coventry.

He said: "We should be confident after beating Coventry, but we have to make sure we don't go to Scunthorpe and slip up."
